In 2018, Dale Hurst became a novelist for the first time. Self-publishing the first of his books via Amazon KDP. This book was the first instalment in a series of Neo-Regency and Neo-Victorian mysteries, entitled The Berylford Scandals. Lust & Liberty is the aforementioned debut novel from Dale Hurst. Set in the Hampshire town of Berylford, the story follows Lady Oliviera Vyrrington and her household at Beryl Court. While married to her silent husband Lord Wilson, she is pursuing an illicit affair with her footman Jesse Blameford, whom she knew before her marriage. While keeping this romance a secret from the prying eyes and ears of Berylford, Lady Vyrrington becomes embroiled in other scandals and mysteries wracking the town.

Sin & Secrecy is the direct sequel to Lust & Liberty, picking the story up after twenty years in 1814. While we are reunited with Lady Vyrrington, the focus is shifted to her mysterious cousin Abel Stirkwhistle. Abel rules Berylford as a moral and judicial arbiter with an iron fist, but fails to tame his sister Miss Rebecca. A woman who has no shortage of enemies in Berylford. One dark night, someone strikes her dead. Which of Miss Rebecca’s adversaries got to her first?

In a (temporary) departure from Berylford, Dale’s latest work-in-progress is You Can Hear Chopin from the Attic. This is a historical thriller, set in Berlin during World War II. Taking centre stage is Heinrich Oeunhausen, owner of the Heinrichstürme Hotel. A young man striving to keep his business operational in spite of the chaos obliterating the German capital. Meanwhile, he is keeping secrets from his SS clientele. Secrets that could cost him his life if discovered.
