At the age of fifteen, some friends and I, purchased tickets to go see a Greek tragedy, Medea written by Euripides. I remember being at the edge of my seat for the entire duration of the play, mesmerised by what was happening on the stage and by the headstrong main character. Once the show was over, we started discussing what we had seen. Some of them were horrified by what Medea had done, others were more understanding of her actions. I defended her, affirming that Jason had it coming. They all looked at me as if I were mad. I was shocked by the different interpretations that we gave to what we had seen, after all, it was the same play!
From that moment on, I’ve kept looking for reinterpretation, reimagining and retelling. This blog is my space to talk about those things and hopefully, you will join the conversation too.
